Extractions

At Tureberg Tandvård & Medicin Center, our goal is to help you keep your beautiful smile if possible. Your dentist will try to preserve your natural teeth with various methods. Though sometimes, there’s too much damage for the tooth to be saved – and if it comes to this, the only option is to extract the damaged, decayed, or loose tooth.

Reasons For Extraction:

  • Tooth Decay
  • Gum disease
  • Impacted teeth
  • Crowded teeth

How Is The Tooth Extracted?

Your dentist will take an X-ray of the area to help plan the best way to remove the tooth. For wisdom teeth removal, panoramic X-ray or Computer Tomography (CT) will be taken which allows your dentist to safely plan the extraction.

After taking an X-ray, your dentist will give you a local anesthetic to numb the area. Once you feel numb around the tooth, it will be carefully extracted, and the infected socket will be thoroughly cleaned.

Once your dentist extracts a tooth you’ll be pleased to hear that there are a number of options to replace it – dental bridges and implants both provide great solutions for missing teeth.

DO I HAVE TO EXTRACT WISDOM TEETH?

If the lower wisdom tooth falls towards the 2nd molar, a lot of food gets caught between the 2nd molar and wisdom teeth. It may cause the 2nd molar to rot. The decay will cause pain and damage the neighboring teeth. When wisdom teeth are severely rotten and left untreated, the inflammation will cause the face to swell, and forbid the mouth to open well. In severe cases, it may even lead to death.

PRECAUTIONS AFTER WISDOM TOOTH EXTRACTION

  • Once the anesthetic wears off, you may feel minor pain. Until the anesthetic completely wears off, try not to eat solid food to prevent chewing your tongue and cheek.
  • Keep biting on the gauze for at least 2 hours, do not spit out the saliva.
If the bleeding persists, please get in touch with us.
  • Do not smoke until you remove the stitches.
  • You may experience swelling for 3~4 days. Vitamin C (Juice) intake may help with the swelling.
  • You should regularly brush your teeth even after the extraction. If it is too hard to brush your teeth, gargle with clean water or mouth wash.
