A dental check-up allows your dentist to see if you have any dental problems and helps you keep your mouth healthy. Leaving problems as it is could make them more difficult to treat in the future, therefore, we encourage you to have regular visits to your dentist and dental hygienist.
At your initial visit, you dentist will perform a comprehensive dental exam. At regular check-up exams, your dentist will include the following:
- Examination of diagnostic x-rays (radiographs): Essential for detection of decay,tumors, cysts, and bone loss. X-rays also help determine tooth and root positions.
- Examination of tooth decay: All tooth surfaces will be checked for decay
- Examination of existing restorations: Check current fillings, crowns, etc.
- Gum disease evaluation: Check the gums and bone around the teeth for any signs of periodontal disease.
- Oral cancer screening: Check the face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues, and gums for any signs of oral cancer.
What Is The Purpose Of A Dental Exam?

What Happens During My Visit?
During your visit, your dentist will take a full medical history, to make sure there aren’t any pre-existing health conditions they should be aware of (such as allergies etc). Usually in most cases this is not an issue, but your dentist needs to be aware of everything before we start.
